The full explanation of various functions and features available with LetUsRead.in is available on the home of page of LetUsRead.in.

Eligibility

Any individual of age 13 and above can register themselves in the LetUsRead.in. Memberships are automatically created once users successfully register with LetUsRead.in.

The LetUsRead.in service provides its members the opportunity to borrow publications online in addition to visiting our library for checking out publications. Members can browse the online catalog and add publications to their checkout queue or have them checkout immediately. Members can checkout books either in pay-on-time plan or pay-in-advance plan. The check-out queue governs what books you would like to read. The books members like to read are then delivered to them or picked up from the library by them. LetUsRead.in recommends that members have at least 20 books in their checkout queue. Members can choose from the various plans available from LetUsRead.in. In the case of pay-in-advance, the choice of the plan determines how long you will be allowed to hold publications and how much you can read. Once the customer reads the book & schedules a collection/drop-off, the next set of books are chosen from the checkout queue and sent to them. Publications will be shipped from the checkout queue depending on the availability. If by order of priority and certain title is unavailable, the next available title will be shipped.

Membership

Your membership is activated at the time you activate your email with us. An one-time membership activation fee of 499 rupees is deferred until membership is closed. Membership cannot be closed before one year from the date of activation. Any credit balance remaining in the account is refunded back to members.

Membership Balance

Members agree to pay any debit balance above 200 rupees on their account within 5 business days. They can use credit/debit cards online or send cheque/cash to the library to credit money to their accounts.

Credit Card Payments

Members can use credit/debit cards to pay their membership account dues. The payment gateway fee will be transferred to membership once we know the exact amount that is charged by the payment gateway.

Pay-On-Time Plan

Pay-on-time is the default plan for checking out publications. When a publication is checked out, its reading fee is charged to membership account. Members can keep the publications for 14 days. After 14 days, late fees will be charged on a daily basis until the publication is returned or renewed. In the case of renewal, reading fee is charged again for 14 days.

Pay-In-Advance Plan

Members pay a reading fee for a period in advance. Periods can be from one month to twelve months. When publications are checked out, its reading fee is deducted from this advanced amount. Reading fee for various periods are available on membership info page under 'Pay-In-Advance Plan' tab. When a plan is renewed the remaining plan balance is carried over to the next period. Any over-used plan amount is recovered from membership account immediately and the due date of the plan and all the outstanding publications are updated proportionately by 30-day one month plan amount. Plan will always be automatically renewed if there is any checked out publications on the membership. One free trip is allowed in a 30-day period. Plan is not renewed when there are no checked out publications.

Membership Account Transactions

LetUsRead.in records all the financial transactions of membership accounts. All the incoming money is first credited to membership accounts. Members can see all the financial transactions on their account at any time.

Membership SMS Fee

There is an annual SMS fee of 99 rupees for active membership.

Reading Fee Calculation

LetUsRead charges a percentage of the lease price of a publication as the reading fee. Lease percentage depends on the material group of the publications. Material group and reading fee percentage of publications are available on our catalog online.

Early Return Credit

Decision to award early return credit is made by the system and is based on the date at which a material is updated as returned. While for most of the times the actual return date and the return date recognized by the system are same, situations where they could be different can occur and in such cases early return credit may not be awarded by the system. Members must inform the library of such situations if they want the credit to be awarded.

Checkout Cancellations

If members want a checkout to be reversed, they must inform the library within three days of the checkout date. If a checked out material is neither picked up nor able to be delivered, the material will be considered as issued and then returned on its due date.

Trip (Delivery/Collection) Fee

Trip fee, if applicable, is the fee for delivering and or collecting materials to/from member addresses. If a trip is failed because of member fault, trip fee may still be charged if applicable.

Late Fees

Late fees are not charged in pay-in-advance plans. In the case of pay-on-time, materials will be due in 14 days. Late fees at the rate of 2% of the price of the books will be charged after 14 days if materials are not renewed or returned. In rare incidents, materials may not get updated on time as returned and this could result in late fees being charged. Members could inform library of such transactions to get the late fees reversed.

Quality of Materials

Sole discretion lies with the library in deciding whether a material has the quality for circulation. No dispute is accepted from members with the quality of the material.

Age of Materials

We get books from different sources; publishers, our members, other libraries, book stores etc. Members can see the purchase date of copies of a book in the book detail page of that book. It also list the number of times the book is circulated. These two information gives our members an idea about the age and condition of a book. While we circulate only those copies that we determine as readable, the condition of books may not be as good as a new book. You can also notice that the lease price of old books are much less than that of new books for the same book. Since our web site has information about the age of books, no complaints are entertained after they are checked out by members.

Damages

All of the publications are sent and returned in protective covers. If a publication is returned in damaged condition as a result of member misuse, the library has the right to charge the member with a damage fee or full lost fee depending on the extent of the damage. However, if the library determines that a book was damaged during the courier service, member will not be charged. Frequent complaints about getting damaged books are not entertained as we make sure publications are fit for circulation before they are put on circulation. Members can always check online all the existing damages of a publication and must inform library of any unrecorded damages within one day of receiving a publication.

Return Request

In the case of pay-in-advance plans, if other members are waiting for a publication that is on circulation, library can request a member to return a publication to the library immediately. Failure to return the publication even after repeated requests results in the publication marked as lost.

Delivery/Collection Services

While the library makes every effort in promptly delivering/collecting materials to/from member addresses, the service should not be considered as a promised service. This is because of uncertainties involved with courier services with whom library have ties. Library cannot be held liable for any loss in fees (reading or late) because of materials not being delivered/collected on time. Library will not charge members a trip fee if a delivery/collection cannot be made. If there is a problem with the courier service, we will update the issue and return method of checked out materials as pick-up and drop-off respectively. Members then should pick-up checked out materials from the library and drop-off issued materials at the library.

Delivery/Pickup Period

Every effort is taken to deliver the checked out materials to members within three business days. If the library cannot deliver within these days, member can request a reversal of checkout. But in the case of delivery not been able to be made because of member fault, no reversal request is accepted. From time to time, because of logistical issues, materials intended for delivery may be updated with issue method type as pick-up and will be kept at the library for members to pickup. Members will be informed of such situations. In the case of pickups, materials are kept at the library for three business days after which they are considered as returned if they are not picked up.

Collection/Drop-off Period

Every effort is taken to collect the materials that are marked for collection by members within three business days. From time to time, because of logistical issues, materials intended for collection may be updated with return type as drop-off by library and in such situations members are expected to return the materials to the library by themselves.

Cover Images

Cover images shown on the web site may not be the one the publication you receive has. While title may be the same, publication cover images can vary depending on the editions, publishers and other factors.

Incentive Amount

Library may decide at its sole direction to award incentive amount to its members on different occasions to encourage members to read. When a membership is closed, all the awarded incentive amount will be recovered from the membership account.

Sponsor amount

Sponsor amount will be recovered from the membership account up to the sponsorship amount awarded if the account balance is above the security deposit when the membership is closed.

Membership closure

Memberships can be closed after 12 months from the time they are activated. Security deposit is credited back to membership accounts. Incentive and sponsorship amounts are recovered as per the rules. Negative account balance remains in the account. Payment is made for the remaining credit balance within three business days.

Book Requests

Members can request any book that is not with the library. Library may ask the member to make a down payment for the requested book. The reading fee of the requested book can be up to 25% of the price of the book.

Down Payments

Members cannot reverse down payments that they have made for books. Requests must be sent to libraries if they wish to reverse it. However sole discretion lies with the library in deciding whether to reverse a down payment before the member reads the book.

Material Sharing

Shared materials are the sole property of the library once the owner hand them over to the library. The owner is only eligible to get the profit share (lease and sale) of those materials. Owners are not eligible to get share of late and damage fees.

Credit/Debit Notes

Library can add credit/debit memos to membership accounts for a reason. Though members will be notified in advance of such a transaction, the sole discretion to add a note lies with the library.
